A drawing room is a formal reception room where visitors to a home may be entertained. Its name comes from the 17th-century term "withdrawing room," the place to which ladies would withdraw, leaving men to smoke and drink. Later, it was just a place to "withdraw" to for more privacy. The Morant Bay Rebellion (1865)

Jamaica was once a leading sugar producer, but the 1833 abolition of slavery there along with unfavorable British tax reforms led to the industry's decline. The resulting economic hardship was one of the prime motives behind the Morant Bay rebellion, which began as a gathering of several hundred black protesters but became a violent riot after a volunteer militia fired upon them. October 11 marks the anniversary of the beginning of the Macedonian people's uprising against fascism during World War II.
